Join us for our next of the 2025 webinars in the UDINZ series “Innovation In Housing: Thinking that’s outside the box!”. We’ll be hearing from James Palmer from Community Finance and the CHFA.

New Zealand faces a well documented affordable housing crisis, with an estimated $13b shortfall in public housing alone.  Community Finance and the Community Housing Funding Agency (CHFA) were established to efficiently finance Community Housing Providers (CHP), so they can deliver at scale across the country in the affordable housing space.

Excitingly the Government announced on 28 March 2025 that it was backing CHFA to help it deliver billions of dollars worth of finance over time for this vital sector.  

Chief Executive, James Palmer, will provide an overview of the CHP sector, how New Zealand compares to other countries in this space, the journey of Community Finance and CHFA, outline some of its previous and existing projects it has supported, explain what government support for CHFA will mean moving forward and what this could mean for future urban development.
